Having worked in some of the most prestigious restaurants and hotels in Scotland, Grant MacNicol is now working as a private chef, catering for dinner parties, shooting weekends, weddings, and events.

Born and raised in Caithness, Sutherland, amongst the Highlands of the far-north, Scottish Chef Grant MacNicol’s knowledge of sourcing Scotland’s finest fayre and preparing and cooking it in ways few others could hope to equal is unrivalled.

As the son of a gamekeeper from a rural estate, Grant was raised with an intuitive knowledge of food from both land and sea and how best to prepare and cook it. Bringing out the best of local seasonal produce and using his trademark combination of traditional and innovative skill and knowledge empowers Grant to create memorable food.

Commitment to his craft

Throughout his career, Grant has worked as Executive Chef in some of Scotland’s finest restaurants including Dornoch Castle, Simpsons Hotel, Rufflets in St Andrews, and Fonab Castle; he also ran his own high-end restaurant for a number of years.

Throughout his years working as an Executive Chef, Grant has been responsible for both gaining and maintaining coveted AA Rosette ratings.

You will also have seen him on television as he worked with the BBC featuring in several shows including The Adventure Show and MasterChef: The Professionals

Culinary reputations don’t happen by chance in Scotland. They are built over time and a recognition that heritage is an essential part of national identity, along with the will to move forwards, to discover innovative new paths.
